The Irish Open has officially become the largest competition in WAKOs history. What an amazing year 2013 was for us The 2013 Irish Open Event had over 2,900 registrations and saw 32 Countries and four continents attend. We had people from as far away as Chili, Venezuela, USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and of course Europe.
The Irish Open is run by fighters for fighters in aid of a very worthy charity, the Irish Society for the Protection of Children. All monies raised at this tournament is donated to the children’s charity, NOBODY gets paid. It is, we feel, without question, the must attend tournament of the year in the WAKO Calendar of events.
No other tournament in the world today offers 15 7×7 meter matted areas and one/two rings. It has become the most prestigious fighting tournament in Europe if not the world. A key to its continued growth year is our Luxurious but affordable Hotel and amazing arena which has the capacity to seat 15,000 spectators. They are a unique combination that has significantly contributed to the ongoing success of the event itself.
In 2013 we saw further improvements associated to the event with the first ever MOBILE APP for a tournament being launched, it allowed coaches and fighters the ability to immediately get details of running orders and draw sheets, it was a huge success.
The Irish Open runs ALL WAKO Weight classes in Full Contact – Light Contact – Point Fighting and Musical Forms. The breakdown of competitors for 2013 was as follows.
